The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has declared a nationwide strike, directing all its members across offices, companies, institutions, and agencies to withdraw their services from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025.
According to News360 Nigeria, the decision followed a resolution reached at the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday. As part of the directive, members stationed in field locations are to halt operations beginning 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, and embark on a 24-hour prayer vigil.
The union said the action would affect all control room operations, panel duties, and outfield activities, with no intervention permitted unless the safety of personnel and assets is threatened, and only with clearance from the National Secretariat.
PENGASSAN further ordered an immediate halt to all gas and crude oil supplies to the Dangote Refinery. International Oil Companies (IOCs) were also instructed to ramp down production and suspend gas deliveries to the refinery and associated petrochemical facilities.
In its resolution, the association stated that the prayer vigil would focus on asking God to grant Nigeria’s leaders the courage to compel Dangote and his associates to respect the laws of the country.
