Popular social media personality, Peller, has drawn widespread criticism after making contentious comments about Yoruba people during a recent live broadcast.
In the viral session, Peller—who identified himself as Yoruba—alleged that members of the ethnic group are known for making bold financial demands, characterising their style as “premium and threatening.” Eyes Of Lagos reports.
“I’m a Yoruba boy, but Yoruba people beg a lot. Their begging is premium and threatening—telling you to give them one million naira or more,” he said. The remarks quickly gained traction online, triggering varied reactions among Nigerians.
While some viewers brushed off the statement as satire or exaggeration, others strongly criticised it, accusing the influencer of reinforcing harmful stereotypes and showing disrespect toward his own ethnic group.
Several critics also warned that such sweeping generalisations could deepen divisions and distort cultural realities in a multicultural society like Nigeria
