The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that his faction remains firmly in control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that any reconciliation effort within the party must be approached with sincerity and clear proposals.
Speaking after a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal that nullified the November 15–16, 2025 PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Wike said his camp is open to dialogue but would negotiate only from a position of strength. The decision followed an earlier judgment by the Federal High Court in Ibadan which affirmed the current National Caretaker Working Committee.
According to Wike, crises within political parties are sometimes inevitable but should be used as an opportunity for internal reform. He stressed that reconciliation must be genuine and not driven by hidden agendas.
Addressing the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, the FCT minister urged those seeking peace to present clear terms rather than engaging in secret negotiations. He warned against what he described as backdoor political manoeuvres, saying reconciliation efforts should be transparent.
Wike also rejected allegations that his role in the administration of President Bola Tinubu, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), makes him a “mole” within the PDP. He pointed out that some of those who accused him of disloyalty had since defected to the ruling party, while he remains in the PDP.
On the party’s upcoming national convention, Wike maintained that preparations were already in place and dismissed suggestions to create another caretaker committee to satisfy aggrieved members.
He said the venue had been secured and required fees paid, insisting that the convention would proceed as planned with all members allowed to participate.
Responding to threats of further legal action at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Wike said the courts remain open to all parties but emphasized that his camp currently holds the advantage.
The meeting was attended by several top party figures, including former governors Samuel Ortom and Ifeanyi Ikpeazu, Caretaker Committee Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Board of Trustees Chairman Mao Ohuabunwa, among others.
