The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced its readiness to conduct state and regional congresses ahead of a national convention, following a recent court ruling.
Speaking at the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, said the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan had cleared all uncertainties surrounding the party’s leadership and constitutional direction.
He said the ruling, which declared the Ibadan Convention null and void, affirmed the leadership of the National Caretaker Committee, with himself as Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
“With the endorsement of our leadership by a competent court of law, we are now firmly positioned to roll out our activities without hesitation,” Muhammed said.
He described the court victory as a triumph for internal democracy and the supremacy of the rule of law, stressing that there were no losers in the process.
The PDP chairman also acknowledged the roles played by key party leaders in stabilising the party, including former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and members of the party’s reconciliation committee.
According to him, their insistence on legality and constitutionalism helped preserve the integrity of the party during a difficult period.
Muhammed assured members that the PDP would emerge stronger, more disciplined, and better positioned to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in future elections
