The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of sustained anti-party activities and deliberate efforts to undermine the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong the PDP described Wike as a “permanent agent provocateur,” following comments he made during his end-of-year media chat in which he openly declared himself the “number one supporter” of the presumptive presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election, while still claiming membership of the PDP.
According to the party, Wike’s declaration confirms the basis of his expulsion from the PDP, noting that such conduct amounts to a clear case of anti-party activity and what it termed “anti-democratic adventurism.”
The PDP said Wike’s actions were not new, describing him as a recurring source of conflict within the party since his tenure as Governor of Rivers State began in 2015. The statement recalled his involvement in successive leadership crises within the party, including his role in the emergence and subsequent removal of former national chairmen, such as Ali Modu Sheriff, Uche Secondus, and Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
Beyond national party leadership disputes, the party also accused Wike of fostering internal exclusion and imposing candidates in Rivers State. It further described as troubling what it called the unprecedented prevention of a duly nominated PDP presidential candidate from campaigning in a PDP-controlled state.
The party alleged that Wike thrives on perpetual conflict and uses calculated disruption to maintain political relevance. It added that his recent public utterances revealed fear of losing influence at the centre, diminishing control over Rivers State, and frustration with the leadership of the PDP at the national level.
The PDP claimed that Wike and some of his associates had now openly aligned with the APC, accusing them of working against the collective interest of the party in pursuit of narrow political objectives. It warned that any agreements aimed at achieving illegal purposes were unenforceable, reminding Wike of his legal background.
Reaffirming its strength and unity, the PDP assured Nigerians that it would field a credible presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, insisting that no individual had the capacity to personalise or destroy the party.
The statement also disclosed that the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee was working to rebuild the party, resolve outstanding legal issues, and position the PDP for electoral victory in 2027.
