The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has expressed optimism that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, may consider defecting to the PDP ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Wabara said the party would readily present Otti as its governorship candidate for a second term should he decide to join the PDP, describing the governor as a valuable asset to any political party.
The former Senate President made the remarks on Sunday in Umuahia while speaking with journalists shortly after the launch of the Abia State 25-Year Development Plan by the state government.
According to him, Governor Otti’s performance in office has attracted interest from several political parties, a development he said would count in the governor’s favour as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
“If he decides to join the Big Umbrella, the party will not hesitate to give him the governorship ticket in 2027,” Wabara said.
He also praised the National Working Committee of the PDP, led by Senator Tanimu Turaki, for its efforts to reposition and rebrand the party, noting that the moves have strengthened the PDP’s credibility ahead of future elections in Abia State and across the country.
Wabara further described the South-East as a traditional stronghold of the PDP, adding that Otti’s possible defection would enhance the party’s chances in the zone and help restore its relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
