The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to reports of the dissolution of its executive in Akwa Ibom State, dismissing claims that the decision was taken unilaterally.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had resolved to dissolve the state chapter following indications that some members were aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a wave of defections.
Ologunagba emphasised that he communicated the NEC’s decision solely in his capacity as Publicity Secretary, and not as an individual acting independently.
However, the statement was swiftly rejected by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who insisted that the Akwa Ibom executive remained intact, arguing that the purported dissolution did not follow due process.
On the issue of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ologunagba noted that he reserves the constitutional right to contest for the PDP’s presidential ticket if he so wishes.
