The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday dissolved all party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states during its national convention held in Ibadan.
The decision followed a motion moved by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who sought the ratification and approval of executive committees previously elected in states and zones where congresses had been concluded.
Presenting the motion before the elective national congress — the party’s highest decision-making body — Makinde explained that nationwide congresses were conducted between 2024 and 2025 to elect officials at ward, local government, state and zonal levels, as well as national ex-officio members.
He said the congresses were held “freely, fairly and substantially in compliance” with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution and party guidelines, and had been approved by both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC).
However, Makinde announced that all existing party structures in the five affected states had been dissolved.
“In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, the Convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government and state levels,” he said, adding that the decision would be formally published as official notice.
The motion was seconded by Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, the party’s National Auditor and a member of the NWC.
