The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid a solidarity visit to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following what both parties described as recent political attacks targeting opposition groups in Nigeria.
During the visit, the PDP delegation acknowledged what it called a growing and shared threat confronting opposition parties, noting that similar pressures have been experienced by the party in recent times. The delegation stressed the need for vigilance against actions capable of undermining democratic principles and political plurality in the country.
The high-level PDP delegation included Seyi Makinde, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, Babangida Aliyu, Taofeek Arapaja, Inna Ciroma, Ishaya Bamayi, Fred Agbedi, and Ini Ememobong.
They were received by ADC leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Kashim Imam, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Tunde Ogbeha, Peter Obi, Liyel Imoke, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Bolaji Abdullahi.
In their response, the ADC leadership expressed appreciation to the PDP for the visit and reiterated concerns over what they described as an existential threat to democracy in Nigeria, particularly through the weakening of major opposition parties.
Both parties affirmed the need for continued engagement and collaboration in defence of democratic values and institutions.
