Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as possible flagbearers for the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement on Friday, Mohammed disclosed that the party is in contact with both politicians, describing Jonathan as “the most celebrated politician in Nigeria.”
He noted that Obi stands a chance of securing the PDP ticket if he returns to the party, while stressing that other chieftains, including Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, are equally free to contest.
The governor’s comments come amid growing calls in some quarters for Jonathan to return to the race, as well as appeals for Obi to rejoin the PDP, with supporters arguing that it may be difficult for him to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Many within the opposition believe Obi has the political weight to challenge and possibly unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
