The People’s Democratic Party PDP, has called on the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, to reinstate police officers attached to the Rivers State taskforce on COVID-19.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Olagbondiya made this known in a statement yesterday. Olabondiya, said the withdrawal of the police officers amounts to playing politics with efforts put in place to curb the spread of the pandemic in the state and the country at large.
He also said the withdrawal will lead to lawlessness and frustrate the genuine actions of the state government in battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan had earlier withdrawn all police officers attached to the state taskforce few weeks ago. This was due to the killing of a Police Sergeant by another police officer attached to the taskforce few weeks ago. The incident which drew public outcry is still under investigation.
