The South-South Zonal Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Caretaker Committees to manage the party’s affairs in Bayelsa and Edo States for an initial period of three months, effective Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The decision was announced following a zonal meeting chaired by Chief Dan Orbih, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South-South), in response to what the party described as gross misconduct and constitutional violations by the dissolved executive committees in both states.
According to a statement by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Prince Etim Isong, the Bayelsa State Working Committee and the Caretaker Committee in Edo were dissolved due to alleged mismanagement and failure to resolve internal crises. The party also cited the PDP’s poor showing in the recent Edo governorship election as a contributing factor.
The Zonal Working Committee emphasized that the actions were taken in line with the party’s constitution (as amended in 2017), and aimed at restoring order and strengthening the party’s structure in the affected states.
