Renowned relationship coach and president of the David Christian Centre, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has defended the Bible-inspired tattoo on his arm, describing it as a deliberate means of spreading the gospel.
Okonkwo unveiled the tattoo in a video shared on his official Instagram page on Saturday in celebration of his 50th birthday. The tattoo features the popular scripture John 3:16 written in Roman numerals — “III: XVI.”
The video, which sparked widespread online reactions, opens with a voice-over reciting a scripture verse widely regarded as central to the Christian faith.
Responding to criticisms, the cleric took to Facebook on Sunday to address the controversy, stating that while some of his fellow Christians focused on judging the tattoo, many failed to recognise its impact.
According to him, the display led to the gospel message of John 3:16 being circulated across numerous blogs and social media platforms, reaching millions of people within 24 hours.
Okonkwo noted that he would provide a more detailed explanation later, while inviting members of the public to his praise party and thanksgiving service, scheduled to take place on Sunday at the David Christian Centre in Lagos.
