The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man and his wife for allegedly trying to sell their day old baby boy. The parents were arrested with three other female child traffickers at Igwuruta, Rivers state, after an intelligence report.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday, said the Police is currently trailing the alleged buyers of the baby who are at large.
The father of the baby, Success Ugochukwu said they were persuaded by the owner of the hospital and the nurses to sell the baby so as to raise money for the wife’s medical bills.
The owner of the hospital on her part denied the allegation as she noted that the father instructed her to sell the baby as he needed money to pay the wife’s bride price.
