More than 5,000 women in Rivers State are expected to benefit from a new financial empowerment scheme under the Rivers Women Support Stimulus (RWSS).
The initiative provides a grant of ₦100,000 to at least 200 women in each of the state’s 23 local government areas. Organisers say the programme will also cover market women and non-indigenes residing in the state to ensure wider participation and inclusion.
The scheme is being executed by Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) in collaboration with the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as part of ongoing measures to support vulnerable women and strengthen grassroots economic activities.
According to programme coordinators, the intervention is designed to improve household income, encourage small-scale productivity, and enhance the role of women in community development across the state.
The stimulus package is also seen as part of the state government’s broader push for inclusive governance and women-focused economic growth.
