Over 500 youths across Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State have surrendered their arms and ammunition to the police during the disarmament programme of the council. The event held at Apostolic Field in Bodo.
The Council Boss of the area, Paul Kobani facilitated the process with intention of ridding the LGA of crime and criminality.
Kobani who commended the youths for the bold step, called on others who are yet to surrender their arms to seize the opportunity and do so as there will not be another of such opportunity.
Kobani equally noted that the well-over 500 youths that surrendered their arms in the area will not be given any preferential treatment at the expense of others in the society.
The council boss who made this known in a statement during the exercise said, the essence is to avoid sending the wrong message to others who have lived responsibly in the society.
Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan who was present at the exercise warned the youths against going back to crime.
