A petrol tanker explosion claimed the lives of more than 50 people on Saturday along the Dikko-Maje Road, opposite Badeggi Fuelling Station, in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Commander in Niger State, Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.
According to Tsukwam, the tragedy occurred when a petrol tanker, which was fully loaded, overturned at the scene. He noted that a crowd gathered to collect the spilt fuel, and when the tanker exploded, it led to a significant number of casualties, with over 50 fatalities reported.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid such hazardous practices to prevent similar tragedies.
