The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Inter-Society) has alleged that more than 20,300 people have been killed in Nigeria’s South East since mid-2015 by suspected jihadist Fulani herdsmen, with the alleged complicity of federal security forces.
In a statement released on Easter Monday, the group also claimed that around 19,000 churches and 3,000 Christian schools and learning centers have been destroyed across the country, particularly in the Middle Belt states of Benue, Plateau, and Southern Kaduna.
The report, signed by Inter-Society chairman Emeka Umeagbalasi and head of Democracy and Governance Chinwe Umeche, described the situation as a coordinated campaign of violence targeting Christian and ethnic communities.
