Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that more than 200 Nigerian children are currently being held hostage and subjected to severe hardship.
Akpabio made the disclosure on Wednesday during the Senate screening of former Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, who was nominated for the position of Minister of Defence.
His comment came after Senator Sani Musa suggested that the nominee should be allowed to “take a bow and go.” Akpabio firmly rejected the proposal, stressing the seriousness of the nation’s security challenges.
“This is not the time for politics of ‘bow and go’. Even Donald Trump is on our neck. We’ve not asked him what his response will be to Donald Trump,” Akpabio said, insisting that a Defence Minister nominee should answer critical questions.
He added that with “over 200 children still in the bush and being tortured,” the Senate must give Musa the opportunity to present solutions that would restore hope to Nigerians.
