The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has refuted claims by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, that it has called off its warning strike.
Speaking to Daily Trust on Thursday, NANNM National Chairman, Morakinyo Rilwan, stated unequivocally that the industrial action remains in effect. He dismissed the minister’s announcement, asserting that only the union has the authority to suspend the strike.
“If it was the Minister who organised the strike, then he could call it off,” Rilwan said. “The strike organised by the association is still ongoing. The Minister didn’t organise the strike, so he doesn’t have the authority to call it off.”
The association began a nationwide warning strike on July 29 over unmet welfare demands, with plans to reassess the situation after one week.
