Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he apologized to his teammates for failing to convert several scoring opportunities during Nigeria’s 4–1 victory over Gabon in the semi-final of the African playoffs for the 2026 World Cup in Rabat.
Although the 27-year-old forward went on to score twice in extra time, helping Nigeria seal a convincing win at the Moulay Hassan Stadium, he admitted that his earlier misses were disappointing. One of the most notable came in stoppage time of regulation play when Osimhen, set up by Wilfred Ndidi, sent his effort wide with only the goalkeeper to beat — a moment that left the Nigerian bench visibly shocked.
Osimhen said he took responsibility for the missed chances and immediately apologized to his teammates before refocusing for extra time, where he delivered the goals that sealed Nigeria’s place in the playoff final.
