A coalition of opposition lawmakers has lauded Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for what they describe as exceptional performance during his second year in office, despite ongoing political tensions.
In a statement on Sunday, spokesperson for the group, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, said Fubara’s achievements over the past 18 months surpass those of many governors operating in more politically stable environments. He cited the governor’s “capacity and focus” amid sustained efforts to undermine his administration.
“Governor Fubara has achieved what many of his counterparts in peaceful states have not,” Ugochinyere stated. “Despite political challenges and his own suspension, key infrastructure projects have continued under his leadership.”
The lawmakers listed major initiatives undertaken by the administration, including the reconstruction of general hospitals, the launch of agricultural programmes, improvements to road and educational infrastructure, and the rebuilding of the State Assembly complex. They noted that many of these projects were already underway before the recent escalation in the state’s political crisis.
The group also took aim at fellow Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, accusing them of abandoning Fubara during a critical period. However, they expressed hope that the governor would soon resume full control of his duties, crediting the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in efforts to resolve the impasse.
