Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a gathering of disgruntled political figures lacking the credibility and unity to pose any serious threat to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists on Thursday in Abuja, Wike labeled the coalition as a “desperate refuge” for political actors who failed in their bid to control the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“There is no coalition,” Wike said bluntly. “The opposition has decimated themselves. The only party that can, if properly managed, challenge this government is the PDP.”
He singled out former Senate President David Mark, accusing him of attempting to seize control of the PDP before emerging as interim chairman of the ADC-led coalition.
With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, Wike emphasized that the PDP, despite its internal wranglings, remains the only organized opposition capable of taking on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)—if it remains united.
“Politics is about interest. They did everything to hijack the PDP’s leadership, but we stood our ground and resisted it,” he added.
