Asari Toru Local Government Takes Giant Strides Under New Leadership
…..Impossibility is an opinion, not a fact. ASALGA is making steady progress with Orolosama Peter Amachree
In a remarkable display of focused governance, the Rt Hon Orolosama Peter Amachree, the newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of Asari Toru Local Government (ASALGA) in Rivers State, has proven in just 31 days that where there is a will, a lot can be achieved.
Shortly after being sworn in by the Executive Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Chairman Amachree wasted no time in addressing the pressing issues faced by the people of ASALGA. Quickly swinging into action, he tackled the critical problem of the cholera outbreak by restoring the water system in Buguma City and even expanding it to previously underserved areas around the Ido sandfield.
Recognizing the importance of stable power supply, the chairman summoned the technicians in charge of the power infrastructure and urged them to inspect and restore electricity across the local government. Unfortunately, the discoveries were not promising, as transformers, power lines, and other essential equipment had been heavily vandalized, requiring a significant financial investment to replace them. However, the chairman’s determination was unshaken, and he ensured that the necessary funds were released to address this challenge.
Addressing the long-neglected Buguma City cemetery, the chairman met with stakeholders and pledged to restore the site, not only to stop the people from being buried outside their community but also to generate income for the local government. As a means of empowerment, the chairman has engaged over 500 youths under a direct labor scheme, providing them with fair compensation.
The health sector has also been a priority for the chairman. He has visited local health centers, discussed with the medical staff, and made commitments to address the longstanding issue of unpaid salaries owed to health workers since 2010. Additionally, he has supported the Riv-Care program, a World Bank partnership initiative aimed at assisting the poorest members of the community.
The chairman’s efforts to unite the various factions within ASALGA have been commendable, setting the stage for a more cohesive and collaborative approach to development. Moreover, he has outlined ambitious plans for the local government, which will be unveiled in the coming days.
As the people of ASALGA witness the tangible improvements brought about by Chairman Amachree’s leadership, the call for them to rally behind him to drive the local government’s progress forward has never been more urgent. With his unwavering commitment and the support of the community, the future of ASALGA looks brighter than ever.
