Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Onueze Okocha, has cautioned the Rivers State House of Assembly against proceeding with plans to probe the former Sole Administrator of the state, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
Speaking with journalists on Monday in Port Harcourt, Okocha urged lawmakers to concentrate on rebuilding the state through constructive and result-oriented legislation rather than engaging in what he described as a potentially divisive exercise.
He advised the Assembly to channel its energy into fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and supporting governance in the state, stressing that a probe into Ibas’ six-month tenure could be interpreted as a witch-hunt.
Ibas, who served as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State from March to September 2025 following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Tinubu, has faced mounting calls for investigation over his management of state affairs during the emergency rule.
Okocha, however, maintained that the retired naval officer merely executed a presidential directive and should not be subjected to political scrutiny for carrying out his assigned duties.
