Following the intensified war against pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering activities in Emohua local government area by local government the chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd , the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources has identified the area as a major flashpoint in its planned remediation of spilled sites across the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Officials of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources were in Emohua LGA for a week long tour of environmentally degraded sites , as a result of illegal oil bunkering activities and pipeline vandalism across the LGA.
The leader of the team, Engr Umeda Uchendu Ph.D , said Emohua LGA was chosen as the first point of call because of the leading role of the local government chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd towards eradicating the menace of oil theft in the region..
Dr. Umeda and a team of environmental scientists from the Ministry of Petroleum were in Emohua LGA to ascertain the level of damage caused by illegal oil bunkering activities in the area and recommend to government institutions or agencies with the mandate to carry out clean up and remediation exercise on the impacted areas.
Also part of the inspection were representatives of the operators of the different pipelines and oil facilities across Emohua LGA.
The inspection team were conducted round the impacted sites across Emohua LGA by officials of Emohua local government council.
