A socio-political group, the Ogoni Liberation Initiative (OLI), has called on the Rivers State Government to immediately pay $150 million as part of compensation allegedly owed to the Ogoni community in relation to the OML11 settlement.
Speaking during an engagement with community members, OLI President and CEO, Dr. Fabeke Douglas, said the demand is rooted in the pursuit of justice and inclusion, stressing that holding institutions accountable should not be seen as an attack but as a step toward ensuring fairness for all citizens.
Douglas revealed that the group’s legal team has formally written to the state government requesting the payment, citing evidence that ₦1 billion had previously been disbursed to a community under similar circumstances.
He warned that legal action may be taken if the government fails to respond, while also urging Ogoni residents to suspend further agitation for the resumption of oil activities until their demands are addressed.
