Former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara over his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as beneficial to the state.
Odili made the remarks on Friday at the 8th Founders’ Day and 5th Convocation ceremony of PAMO University of Medical Sciences in Port Harcourt.
According to the former governor, Fubara’s decision effectively positions Rivers State in alignment with the Federal Government, a development he described as “perfect,” noting that the state stands to gain more from the centre through such alignment.
Odili, who is the founder and Pro-Chancellor of the university, also praised Fubara’s performance in office, particularly his investments in education and the health sector. He highlighted the administration’s focus on primary healthcare and the construction of quality zonal hospitals across the state, describing the efforts as commendable and consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda in the health sector.
Odili urged Rivers people to support the governor and back the alignment with the Federal Government, stressing that such cooperation would ensure the state maximises available national opportunities and resources.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, expressed satisfaction that the state government’s investment in PAMO University of Medical Sciences was yielding positive outcomes.
She said the scholarship scheme provided by the state government to hundreds of Rivers students had contributed to the institution’s success and assured that the government would continue to support the university, particularly in view of the quality medical professionals it produces.
