The Peoples Democratic Party, has slammed the Lagos State Government over what transpired at the Lekki Toll Gate on Saturday, describing it as shameful.
Chairman of the party in Lagos State, Adedeji Doherty disclosed this in a statement few hours after the incident, between security agencies and peaceful protesters.
Adedeji said it is a sad reminder of what Nigerians went through in the hands of military dictators, few years ago.
“It is now clear that all that matters to the APC government of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the billions of naira generated at the Lekki Toll Gate, and not the welfare of the people,” he said.
“Lagosians will never believe that a time will come in the State when citizens’ rights to peaceful protests will be muscled by a supposed democratic government,” he added.
He furthermore, called for the discontinuation of the trial of protesters arrested yesterday.
