The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Hon Barr George Ariolu DSSRS, has hinted that his administration will soon commence another phase of skills acquisition training for Obio/Akpor youths.
The Council Boss gave this hint when the association of Post Graduate students of Rivers State University led by its President Mr. David Nelson-Ordu paid him a thank you visit at the Council Headquarters, Rumuodomaya.
Recall that the council chairman recently renovated the prestigious Obio/Akpor Post Graduate hostels in Rivers State University built by the former Governor of Rivers State. Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike. CON. when he was the chairman of ObioAkpor Local Government Area.
Addressing the students, Ariolu noted that arrangement has been completed with a reputable driving school globally recognized to train our Sons and Daughters in the area of Trucking.
“Mr president, I want to sincerely appreciate you and your team for this visit, it is very rare especially in the academic class to see people come out genuinely to say thank you for something that has being done. For us it is a catalyst, it will spur us to do more for our people.”
“A.A. driving school is like Charkin Maritime Academy. In two to three weeks time, we will be calling for interested persons in our local Government Area to apply. They will be training our youths on trucking. Truckers are needed in America, Canada, and Mid-East, where Oil and Gas operations are taking place.”
“For us, we have come to tell the people that there is hope for our country Nigeria and that something good can come out of the local Government council. My boss, the minister for FCT, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has set a standard and template from local Government down to when he was the chief of staff.”
“Two weeks after his swearing in as FCT Minister, go to Abuja all the street lights and traffic lights are working. Yesterday. I was part of the team that received the Minister for Works His Excellency, David Umahi at the Eleme junction axis of the East-West Road, the same road that was abandoned by the previous Government for 8years despite the Economic importance of that road”.
“Today the contractor has been mobilised to site in less than four months of this administration. All these are indications that we have started doing the right things .”
On his part, the president of Post Graduate students association Rivers State University, Mr.
David Nelson-Ordu, who spoke earlier, said that they were at the council’s headquarters to appreciate the chairman for extending his wave of infrastructural development to them.
“Mr Chairman, we are here to thank you for your show of love and manifestation of a promise made to the postgraduate students’ association of Rivers State University. Few months ago we were here on a courtesy visit to you and in the cause of the visit, we appealed to you to remodel and renovate the prestigious Obio/Akpor Post graduate Hall in Rivers State University and and our Hostels. In your gracious nature, you approved.”
“Today, that job is 96% complete. The job includes a provision of portable pipe borne water system, construction of a car park, car wash and a relaxation park. All of these is to improve the students’ welfare. You are not the only local Government council chairman we approached for this, but you stood out. Thank you Sir.”
