Barely 24 hours after placing a ban on the activities of OSPAC in Obio/Akpor LGA, Chairman of the Council, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo has announced the disbandment of community policing in all the communities in the area.
Ihunwo made this known during a meeting with the management of OSPAC at the Council Secretariat on Tuesday
The chairman told those present at the meeting that he feels let down that those who were supposed to maintain law and order in the various communities turned out to be nightmare for the people of Obio/Akpor.
According to him, going forward, no one will be allowed to bear arms in the name of OSPAC.
He said,“We are going to form a new security outfit for our local government, we have already discussed it with the commissioner of police so henceforth, you no longer exists, between now and Friday we are going to meet with your leadership, we will sit down and look at how to put things right, by doing so we will no longer have heads in any community but a central head that will be supervised by the council and also report directly to the Commissioner of Police.”
“We have passed the era of OSPAC, In the coming days, I will convoke a stakeholder meeting in the various communities and afterwards, we will start to profile those who want to be members of the new security architect we want to put in place in our LGA but there will be a new name.”
