Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo has Inaugurated the Post Graduate Scholarship Committee to assist those who are desirous of pursuing their education up to the Master’s Degree and PhD turn their dreams into reality.
Ihunwo, during the Inauguration at the council secretariat on Monday, 25th November, told the committee to prioritize indigent students and also ensure that all the wards get a maximum share of the slots.
The programme which is in its first phase is also open to non-indigenes.
According to him, the Post Graduate scholarship is strictly for vulnerable students and not those from wealthy homes, warning the committee that he will not tolerate sabotage and compromise.
“We decided to set up this committee to see how we can support our people by giving them funds to pursue their education in Master’s Degree and PhD programmes, we are doing this as an administration because of the premium we place on education and our belief that the training we give to our people today will lead to their economic growth, development and advancement in the future and in turn benefit our LGA and State in general. Therefore, I admonish you to treat all applicants fairly but ensure that each ward must have at least three beneficiaries plus non-indigenes,” he said.
