The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, has approved the constitution of two key committees aimed at addressing land encroachment, drug abuse, cultism, and other social vices threatening peace and youth development in the area.
In a statement issued by the Council, Dr. Worlu said the move aligns with his administration’s commitment to curb land grabbing, protect community rights, and safeguard the future of young people in Obio/Akpor.
The Committee Against Land Grabbing is chaired by Chief Alex Wele, with Chika Sampson serving as Secretary. Other members include Dr. Kelvin Akani, Goodluck Ogunka, Kenneth Olumeni, Joshua Chinda, Ogbonda Victor (Esq.), Engr. Amadi Kelly G, Hon. Derrick Wakohu, and representatives from the Police, DSS, and Civil Defence.
The Committee Against Drug Abuse, Cultism, and Other Social Vices will be headed by Hon. Ike Nwanwa as Chairman, with Franca Chiorlu as Secretary. Members include Azubuike Igbani, George Orlu, Chief Prince Amadi, Comr. Kennedy Akaninwa, Edward D. Chimele, Dr. Edward Wasurum, Chief Loveday Wobo, and representatives from the Civil Defence, NOA, NDLEA, traditional rulers, Police, and DSS.
The inauguration ceremony for both committees is scheduled to hold on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Council Headquarters, Rumuodomaya.
All appointed members have been urged to be seated before the commencement of the ceremony.
