The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr Gift Worlu, has directed all parties involved in the lingering land dispute along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road to vacate the area until further notice.
Dr Worlu issued the order following a protest by residents of Rumuosi and Rumuekini communities at the council secretariat, where they accused suspected land grabbers of unlawfully taking over their land. He assured the protesters that the council would invite all stakeholders to a meeting to resolve the matter, warning that his administration would not condone land grabbing.
The council boss also raised concerns over attempts by individuals to encroach on land belonging to the local government.
It will be recalled that in August, a group of individuals reportedly moved heavy equipment onto the disputed land, claiming to act on a court order. Their action provoked a counterattack from another group, destroying the machines. Since then, activities on the land have remained suspended.
