The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, has pledged his administration’s support for the advocacy and activities of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in promoting women’s rights.
Ihunwo made this commitment while hosting a delegation from FIDA at the council’s executive chamber in Rumuodomaya. He praised the organization’s efforts in advocating against gender-based violence, rape, and other societal vices, describing their work as crucial to maintaining social sanity.
Expressing his administration’s gender sensitivity, Ihunwo noted that he has implemented an open-door policy and appointed numerous women to serve in various capacities within the local government.
The council chairman also urged the female lawyers to support and pray for the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, amidst challenges facing his administration. Ihunwo expressed confidence that Fubara would overcome all obstacles and successfully complete his eight-year tenure.
