Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, Chijioke Ihunwo says the issue of flash flood will be a thing of the past in the area by next year.
Ihunwo, made this known after a meeting with the flood management committee of the area on Wednesday.
According to him, they have identified the cause of flash flood in the area and are determined to tackle it.
He said, “We have met with the flood management committee of our local government, and I’m assuring the people of Obio/Akpor that by next year the issue of flash flood will be a thing of the past in our local government.
“We have identified the cause of flash flooding in our local government which is based on the decision of some developers to deliberately build on the natural water path, and going forward the council will not allow anyone to build at unauthorized location.
“Again, we are not comfortable with the idea of allowing flooding to displace people on a yearly basis before actions are taken, I think we should be proactive enough to look at the root cause of flooding and take action about it so that people can live in their house comfortably without any fear of yearly flooding.
