The Obidient Movement has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating moves to deny Peter Obi a viable platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, claimed that the reported delisting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission is part of a broader strategy to block Obi from contesting.
Speaking to journalists, Tanko alleged that the plan dates back to the 2023 general election, warning that it poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s democracy. He further claimed that efforts were made to destabilize Obi’s former party, the Labour Party, through internal crises aimed at weakening his political base.
According to him, despite Obi’s attempts to restore order within the party, alleged government-backed actors and judicial interference frustrated those efforts. He added that after Obi aligned with the ADC and revitalised the party, the ruling party intensified its actions, including pushing for legislative amendments to the Electoral Act, which he said were designed to undermine Obi’s ambitions.
Tanko also pointed to Obi’s March 22, 2026 visit to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, noting that the warm reception he received from Kwankwasiyya supporters further heightened tensions with the ruling party.
