Rights activist Aisha Yesufu has clarified that former presidential candidate Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party, despite his recent involvement with a political coalition backing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election.
Yesufu made the clarification on Saturday in response to growing speculation about Obi’s political alignment. She explained that while the ADC has been chosen as the coalition’s platform for the 2027 presidential race, Obi has not resigned from the Labour Party.
She noted that Obi will continue to campaign for Labour Party candidates in upcoming elections, including the Anambra State governorship race and various by-elections.
“Yes, Peter Obi is part of the coalition backing ADC for 2027. However, he remains in the Labour Party and is committed to supporting its candidates in upcoming contests,” Yesufu stated.
