A faction of the Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has tendered an apology to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, over the recent misconduct of Mr A.M. Yerima.
In a statement dated November 12, 2025, and signed by the state chairman, Ambassador Bestman Innocent Amadi, the council described Yerima’s behavior as “unacceptable” and not representative of the values and principles upheld by Nigerian youths.
The NYCN expressed deep concern over what it termed as an act of disrespect toward the FCT Minister, stressing that such conduct does not reflect the ideals of young Nigerians. The council condemned any form of disrespect toward leaders and dignitaries, urging youths across the country to uphold respect and courtesy in all engagements.
“We distance ourselves completely from the utterances and actions of Mr. A.M. Yerima,” the statement read. “We are taking necessary steps to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.”
The council further apologized to the public and particularly to Minister Wike for any offense caused by Yerima’s behavior, pledging to promote a culture of respect and dignity among youths.
It also directed Mr. Yerima to issue a formal apology to the FCT Minister within 14 days or risk being disowned by Nigerian youths, with possible dismissal proceedings to follow.
Ambassador Amadi reaffirmed the council’s commitment to promoting the welfare and positive image of Nigerian youths, adding that the NYCN remains focused on contributing to national development.
