The Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) said the government has not put any measures in place for the reopening of schools amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Chairman of NUT in the state, Lucky Kpogere made this known in a chat with journalists yesterday. He said schools in the state are not ready for resumption, as he called for the necessary measures to be put in place to guarantee the safety of students and teachers in the state and the country at large.
The chairman noted that the reopening of schools should not be politicised as it is the position of the national secretariat. Teachers are not happy with the reopening of schools owing to the reality of the COVID-19, he asserted.
He called on the federal government to ensure the necessary measures are put in place before the planned resumption of schools as the reality on ground shows it is impossible.
The federal government had few days ago announced the resumption of schools for students in Primary 6, JSS 3, and SS3. This is to enable them write exams and graduate to the next class.
