The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has initiated an urgent investigation into a gas bubbling incident in Bille Community, sparking renewed concerns about environmental safety and public health in oil-producing areas.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the commission said it had swiftly deployed a coordinated technical response following notification of the incident.
The regulator expressed serious concern and reassured residents that all necessary measures were being taken to uncover the cause of the occurrence and limit potential risks.
According to the commission, it remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to address the situation, while prioritising the safety of affected communities, environmental protection, and public health.
