The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has warned that it may resume its suspended nationwide strike following an alleged violation of a peace agreement by the Dangote Group.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the union’s national president, Williams Akporeha, and general secretary, Afolabi Olawale, accused the company of disregarding a pact brokered by the federal government to ensure workers’ rights and industrial peace.
According to the union, the agreement was signed on Tuesday at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters. However, NUPENG alleged that on September 10, Alhaji Sayyu Dantata instructed his truck drivers—longstanding members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG—to remove union stickers from their vehicles, a move the union described as a clear breach of the accord.
NUPENG said it would not hesitate to reactivate its nationwide strike if the alleged violations persist.
