The Rivers State Police Command, has confirmed the killing of a bus driver identified as “Biggie” by an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, attached to the Rivers State Taskforce on Street Trading and Illegal Motor Park.
The incident occured on Tuesday, at the Choba axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Spokesperson of the Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni in a Statement Today, said it was an accidental discharge. He noted that mobile Police Officers have been sent to the area to restore sanity.
Omoni also said the command is investigating the incident to unravel what transpired between the deceased and the suspect.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was shot close to his genitals, as they could not confirm if there was a little scuffle between both parties.
Meanwhile, stakeholders have called for the arrest and prosecution of the officer, adding that the matter should not be swept under the carpet.
