The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has denied reports making the rounds that some of its officers attacked and killed one person while injuring several others at Angulu-Ama in Asari Tori Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Unknown Gunmen dressed in NSCDC, uniform had stormed the area in a speed boat on Sunday, shooting sporadically in the air, as residents scampered for safety.
Ogutuase Micheal, Assistant Commandant of the Corps, who spoke to journalists on behalf of the State Commandant on Tuesday, said the command has nothing to do with the attacks.
He said the command does not have any boat like the one used by the assailants, and that they have not carried out any surveillance operations in the area recently..
“The attack which has got no link to the NSCDC. Therefore, the general public is hereby advised to disregard such insinuations and claims and to see it as misleading and untrue,” he said.
“Contrary to the accusations from some quarters that the attackers were Civil Defence personnel, the command hereby declare that it is not true as it does not owe nor have any boat with such engine capacity, nor has it carried out surveillance operations along that area for some time now,” he added.
Meanwhile, stakeholders of the area have called on security agencies to Investigate the incident, and bring the perpetrators to book.
