The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 37 individuals for defying the recent ban on scavenging activities in the FCT, implemented by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters.
According to Commandant Odumosu, the arrests align with government policies aimed at regulating scavenging activities, popularly known as “Baban Bola,” and shutting down pantaker markets within the territory.
He described the suspects as potential threats, alleging that many scavengers engage in criminal activities, including vandalism, robbery, and assault, often using dangerous weapons.
The command also recovered various items from the suspects, including weapons and illegal substances. The recovered items include:
Four daggers
Three jackknives
Two chisels
Three knives
Two pinches
Ten bottles of codeine syrup
Forty-five wraps of Indian hemp

He said, the suspects are currently under investigation, and due legal processes will be followed for their prosecution.
