The Nigeria Police Force has resumed the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) across the country through a newly enhanced digital platform, as directed by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The move follows widespread complaints of harassment by security personnel and aims to provide a transparent, standardized process for regulating factory-fitted tinted windows. Authorities say the digital system, hosted at possap.gov.ng, will ensure legitimate usage while addressing the security risks associated with unauthorized tinted vehicles.
Law enforcement officials cite the exploitation of tinted vehicles in crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and fraud, stressing that the reactivation of the TGP system will help distinguish lawful users—such as individuals with medical needs or security personnel—from criminal elements.
The revamped system includes identity verification through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), biometric data collection, and background checks. Permits will now be issued with QR codes, and processing is expected to be completed within 72 hours.
A 30-day compliance window will begin on May 1, 2025, after which enforcement will commence. The police warn that any officers found engaging in extortion or misconduct during enforcement will face disciplinary action.
The IGP emphasized the Force’s commitment to a citizen-focused and technology-driven policing strategy, urging the public to support the initiative for improved security and public trust.
