Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been placed in an induced coma following emergency abdominal surgery, according to reports on Tuesday.
The Nigeria international, 27, was hospitalized on Monday after sustaining a serious injury during Forest’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City on Sunday. He collided with a goalpost in the final minutes of the match while attempting to score.
Medical professionals opted for the coma to aid his recovery by limiting movement and stabilizing his heart rate. Sources indicate that Awoniyi’s condition is not considered life-threatening.
