Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been hospitalised to undergo urgent abdominal surgery following an injury sustained during the club’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
The incident occurred late in the match when Awoniyi collided forcefully with the goalpost while contesting the ball with Leicester’s Facundo Buonanotte. Though he initially received treatment on the pitch and returned to play briefly, the severity of the injury was later deemed greater than initially assessed.
The match was also marked by a post-match confrontation in which Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis confronted manager Nuno Espirito Santo in a heated on-pitch exchange.
