The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Rivers State Directorate, has launched a school sensitization initiative targeting students in selected local government areas as part of efforts to promote civic responsibility and national values among young Nigerians.
The sensitization programme, held on May 14 and 19, was conducted across schools in Ahoada East and Omuma local government areas. The campaign aimed to educate students on core national values and address pressing social issues affecting their communities.
Key topics covered during the outreach included the National Identity Project, the National Anthem and Symbols, the National Value Charter, and the importance of security awareness. Students were also sensitized on personal and environmental hygiene, the dangers of sexual and drug abuse, the consequences of examination malpractice, and the risks associated with the “get rich quick” mentality. Other issues highlighted included respect for authority and elders, the hazards of fuel scooping, and the benefits of immunization.
The NOA said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster responsible citizenship and national unity among the youth.
