The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has warned that there will be no further extension for the payment of ground rent in the FCT, cautioning defaulters that failure to pay may result in the loss of their properties.
Wike issued the warning on Monday while addressing journalists after inspecting key infrastructure projects in Wuse and Life Camp areas of the FCT. He noted that previous grace periods granted, including a two-week extension and a presidential intervention four months ago, have long expired.
“It’s unfortunate that most Nigerians who complain don’t want to abide by the rules. When we started this enforcement, we had a presidential intervention to give them two, three weeks more. But it’s more than four months now, and we cannot carry out projects without people paying their taxes. We are not going to extend any further,” he said.
The FCT Minister also outlined enforcement measures, stating that premises of defaulters will be sealed and the properties will revert to the FCT Administration. “If you have not paid, we will seal up the premises, and the property then becomes the property of the FCT Administration,” he added.
